Surface 71 ->
Surface 71 is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization run solely by students. We host beach cleanups every month and have installed water refill stations in several local schools. Our mission is to raise awareness about plastic pollution and protect the beauty and sustainability of our marine resources.

How it Began
Emily Briceno and Jemma Currie started Surface 71 in 7th grade (2015). The team was eventually awarded $12,000 through the Palm Beach Philanthropy tank, allowing them to kickstart this project and impact several schools across Palm Beach County. In 2020, I joined this growing group of students, and together, we are committed to having a lasting impact on our oceans, rivers, and other waterways.

Recent Work:
Surface 71 hosted a virtual event for Remembrance Day on September 11, 2020, that invited students from Palm Beach County middle and high schools to learn about 9/11 and inspire them to make it an annual day of service.

Veterans Richard "Buzz" Bryan and Rahjanni Lusi spoke about their experiences, offering participants searing inside accounts of how 9/11 affected both their service and their perspective on it.

We worked with several partners in order to make this event possible:

With the help of Hello Hygienics, we were able to get hygiene kits for homeless veterans:
