They add protection
To an already fortified section.
Like battlements on castle walls,
They secure my heart,
So no angel falls.

I want them stronger,
So my soul can last so much longer.
But my enemy's weapons are far more advanced,
They strike where we're weak,
And I know we're chanced.

But I still fight, with my head held high.
My mind is not ready to say goodbye.
No, it holds my heart captive,
In the depths of the dungeons you'll find,
The chains wrapped around it are massive.

But every so often,
"To the wind with caution,"
It will say as it breaks through its restraints.
Trusting the king to keep it on a leash,
My heart will run and play with the saints.

And when it shall return,
Society will find a burn.
Scorched by the enemies who offered loving peace,
The king and its captive will know
To look, next time, through a better eyepiece.

My treasonous heart willingly surrenders,
For it knows it was the offender.
Escaping the guarded castle
For heavily veiled lies of love and protection,
These things, it knows, are now just a hassle.

The king conjures his remaining control,
Last attempts to seal the growing hole
In the wall, it widens, with maddening speed.
But with a quick patch and a chain of the heart,
It quickly becomes the size of a poppy seed.
